"Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child's earliest years. This already happens when the family help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christion families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents" (p.595 Catechism of the Catholic Church)
At this time, we are still working on a 1st Grade Program and hope to have something in place in 2025
If you would like to do a home-based program with your first grader, please contact Val Kula at [email protected] or call 320-639-2783. and she can help you find resources to get you started.
The First meeting was on Wednesday, Sept. 25th at Holy Family Church –Belle Prairie @5:30pm
For those families who will have a child/children preparing for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist (typically 2nd grade), we will be meeting one Wednesday per month at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie. The entire family is welcome to join us, but at least one parent/guardian is required to be present each evening along with the child preparing to receive these Sacraments. This is for all families within our Haven of Mercy Area Catholic Community: families who have children attending Mary of Lourdes, a public school, or homeschooling. Families will also be receiving materials to take home and work on together during the weeks we are not meeting as a large group. We are asking parents to pay $70 (goes up to $80 after August 30) to help with the cost of the take home boxes, materials used, and the meal. This is a portion of the actual cost. The Haven of Mercy ACC pays the remaining portion for each family. A family will not be denied formation based on an inability to pay. If that fee is a burden for you, please contact us and tell us, and we can cover the cost for you. The meal begins at 5:30pm and the prayer time and formation start at 6:15pm. We will give you the full calendar of formation nights, the dates for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist that evening.

Scheduled Dates (Subject to Change)Based on the principle that "Parents are the primary educators in the Faith" (GDC 255), Family Formation revolves around weekly family gatherings where home lessons, provided by the church, are worked on and discussed by parents with their children. These shared learning experiences spill over into the family's everyday life as they open the doors to discussion of the Catholic Faith and begin to live and breathe the life of the Church. For questions registering please, contact Cindy Loidolt at 320-632-5720 email [email protected] or Jason Becker at 320-639-2684 email [email protected]
